Well finally I was the one getting married, the last of
the four but my turn is here. I am getting married on August
long weekend so before the big day the boys and I decided
to take a wildman in the bush trip. With Northern Sk. up
in flames and since I had just come back from a long trip
up North we decided our time would be better spent on the
South Saskatchewan Canoeing. We decided to canoe from Outlook
to Saskatoon.
After my two weeks of canoing 8hrs/day I was ready to do
some casual canoeing. We found floating down the river much
easier with occasional break to play cups and play volleyball
on the sand dunes. It was hot out there on the river until
supper. We were cooking and tossing the disc until we saw
some lightning. Then it started to rain so we went to cover
up our gear under the canoes. It was only raining a little
so we were still having fun fooling around until we saw
a huge wall of water and 100km winds coming towards us.
This wall of water met us and things went wild. The winds
hit us at once, flipped over our canoe, sent a lifejacket
flying down the sandbar, and left everything we had muddy
and wet. I crawled underneath the canoe to find some refuge
and cover from the rain and Steve kept cooking the food
on his little stove and delivered me some great noodles.
The storm finally let up, and we were able to limp across
to the shore to set up camp for the night. We continued
on in our travels cliff jumping, and building a huge fire
on an island we stayed on. The island was barren so I
had to go raid a beaver dam so that we would have wood.
The next day we arrived at the Berry Barn where we picked
6 pails of berries and ate at least 2 in the process. |
