Honeymoon in Costa Rica

Ahh! 1 weeks relaxing at an all-inclusive resort was just what we needed after all the planning that went into the wedding. It was time to hit the beaches, catch some sun, learn to surf, and eat eat eat. Costa Rica was amazing with the beautiful green countryside, sweet fruit, and awesome surf. We took a day and took some surfing lessons and then decided to head off on our own. Me thinking that I would look much cooler with a smaller board forgot that it would also be a lot harder. We gave it a shot but ended up turning our short boards for long ones. Our one week of relaxing went quick and then we were off to rough it a bit more.

We had a rough start after getting not so great directions from the resort. Our directions left us on the side of the road waiting for a bus that would never come. We got dropped off on the main highway near Pozo Azul. We were earlier told that a bus would show us about 1 hour after we got there. A taxi driver told us that we had just missed the last bus of the day but he more than willing to drive us the 30km for $60US. We decided we would wait and try to hitch a ride but although it was the most popular road in the country no one was heading down the road we wanted. It was getting dark, so out of desperation we started to search and ask where some cabinas were. We walked a couple kms and found a little place that was run down and stay their the night. The trucks kept us up with the noise but the next morning we hitched a ride a couple kms so that we could catch our 9'oclock bus. We waited for 2 hours when we found out that there was a motorcycle accident up the road. Our bus decided that instead of waiting and then coming to our bus stop it would just take a short cut and skip us. That meant we would have to wait another 6 hrs before the next bus would come. Luckily we were able to get a ride from a tour van for a lot cheaper than the same taxi driver would give us.

We got to Santa Elena and decided to plan out the rest of our trip. We wanted to fill our last week as full as possible. We set up a trip to the Cloud forest zip line tour where we soared above the trees and we went white water rafting. After heading to see the active Arenal volcano. In the evening we took a tour to watch the volcano erupt. It spit lava rocks out and as they broke apart and crumble down the volcano they streaked red down the side. The next day we took a river tour that brought us across all sorts of different animals. The tour guide was amazing at picking out the smallest animals and stopping for us to see them. We even got to sneak into Nicaragua for a little while.
